Microsoft’s plans to construct a data center campus in Aragón to provide cloud services to European businesses and public organizations are on the horizon. This new infrastructure will complement the company’s investments in establishing Microsoft’s data center region in Madrid, which is set to be available in the coming months. It will offer a comprehensive range of Microsoft’s intelligent cloud services, including Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Dynamics 365, and Microsoft Power Platform, to private and public clients across Europe, ensuring compliance with regulatory, compliance, and data sovereignty requirements.

The forthcoming Microsoft campus is poised to become a catalyst for innovation, economic growth, and job creation in Aragón and the rest of Spain. It will play a pivotal role in accelerating the digital transformation of organizations, both public and private, of varying sizes and industries, while simultaneously boosting the technological sector’s growth in Spain. According to an analysis by IDC, the new data center campus has the potential to contribute €8.4 billion to the Spanish GDP and generate 69,000 indirect job opportunities between 2026 and 2030.

Aragón, chosen as the headquarters for this ambitious project, has emerged as a significant European hub for data center installations. This is attributed to the availability of highly skilled talent, public support for innovative projects, the presence of high-quality infrastructure, available land, and its strategic geographical location. Microsoft’s project will stimulate innovation and the growth of the local technology industry in Aragón, where Microsoft already collaborates with over 300 tech partner companies. According to IDC, this data center campus initiative could potentially add €264 million to the regional GDP and lead to the creation of over 2,100 specialized technology jobs in Aragón between 2026 and 2030.

Jorge Azcón, President of the Aragón Government, expresses great satisfaction in the consolidation of Aragón as a leading European region in a top-tier and strategic technology sector. He underlines that Microsoft’s project aligns perfectly with Aragón’s aim to attract companies, especially those with international relevance and innovative character, to enhance the economy and generate wealth in the Autonomous Community. He assures that the Aragón Government will make every necessary effort to facilitate the implementation of such investment projects, which will make a significant difference in creating a cutting-edge, highly technology-focused economy with the generation of qualified job positions.

Alberto Granados, President of Microsoft Spain, emphasizes the company’s commitment to providing intelligent cloud solutions and services to businesses and public entities in Europe. This commitment is geared towards fostering digital transformation, driving innovation, and contributing to the growth of the technology sector in Aragón and the rest of Spain. He also highlights Microsoft’s strong collaboration with national and regional governments and local authorities to ensure that the campus construction fully enables individuals, businesses, and society to reap the benefits of the digital age.

Microsoft is dedicated to responsible data center operations with a focus on sustainability. The company has committed to sourcing 100% renewable energy for its operations, including data centers, by 2025.

Microsoft’s cloud services adhere to over 100 standards, encompassing international regulations like the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), ISO 27001, HIPAA, FedRAMP, SOC 1, SOC 2, and specific national standards, such as Spain’s High-Level National Security Scheme (ENS) compliance certification.

Moreover, the EU Data Boundary for the Microsoft Cloud initiative, launched on January 1, further extends Microsoft’s commitment to data residency, ensuring that data of European citizens is not only stored but also processed within the European Union. This commitment encompasses key Microsoft cloud services: Azure, Microsoft 365, and Dynamics 365.
